The unique design enables flushing of the strainer by using a valve key to open the ball valve for a brief instant which uses normal line pressure to flush entrapped sand and debris. Tests prove that 99% of all sand and debris creeps slowly along the bottom of the pipeline. This normal characteristic is driven by the demand flows of normal consumption. Sand and debris do not enter the state of suspension until the velocity in the pipeline exceeds 8 feet per second or other obstructions cause a stirring action.
The Sand Trap System was designed so as not to obstruct flow, create turbulence or impact the accuracy of the in-line meter. Sampling of the sand and debris is made possible by attaching a pipe directly to the ball valve to vent into a container. This allows for evaluation and analysis of pipeline deterioration.
The Quick Flushing Sand Trap Strainer complies with the American Water Works Association Standards C701 and C702, as most recently revised.
