The MARS "System 1" Dual Test Bench
Small 5/8" through 1" meters are held in position by brass saddle fixtures and polyethylene gaskets. These fit into the carrier bars which glide on stainless steel guide rails. Draw bars are located at each meter position to maintain the correct spacing when installing meters on the bench. A ball screw linear actuator from a compression seal on the meter ends during testing.
Larger 1 1/2" through 2" oval-flanged meters are held in place between carrier bars with large "O" ring seals. Stainless guide pins align the meter bolt holes ate the seal face. Fixtures for threaded meters fit into the carrier bar, sealing the meter with polyurethane gaskets. Draw bars at each meter position maintain correct spacing when the meters are placed on the bench.

The MARS MD-80 Test Bench
The MARS Company, MD-80, Large Meter Test Bench, is a unique product which is designed to provide the test platform necessary to test large water meters including turbines, compounds, fireline meters, and even backflow preventers.
Although most modern Water Utilities have a test bench for testing residential meters and commercial meters up through 2 inch, most do not have equipment designed for testing meters from 3 inch and above. A few Utilities have produced some home made units with good performance. However, the time wasted during the bolting and fitting of these meters into a test line has been prohibitive. MARS Company solved this problem with a test unit which does not require nuts and bolts. The meter, any meter, is placed on the bench alone or with several other meters, depending on the bench length, and held in place by a hydraulic clamping mechanism. The sizes can be changed and meters installed using a set of adapter spools, which come with the bench.
On average, the time required to set up the bench with multiple meters for testing, is less than five minutes regardless of meter size. This allows the Utility to test even new meters for compliance with the AWWA Standards or with local specifications. MARS Company supplies these advanced test systems with stainless steel tanks and gravimetric systems, which are traceable and certified by the State in which the unit is installed. For those unfamiliar with the terminology, GRAVIMETRIC SYSTEMS, simply means we weigh the water for accuracy to 1/10th of 1 percent.
Further, MARS offers a fully computerized meter testing system with meter inventory database. We also integrate this system into the central computer network to allow access to test records and inventory status by customer service and other authorized parties.
